Apple and IBM have teamed up, and the reason behind this particular partnership is this – they intend to deliver customized iPads to the elderly in Japan. Japanese insurance and bank holding company Japan Post have worked alongside a partnership in order to improve the lives of elderly people in the world’s third largest economy. All of the companies involved claim that they do have hope for other countries to follow suit, as many countries start to have a higher number of aged population due to increased life expectancy.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty and Japan Post CEO Taizo Nishimuro did announce the deal in New York on Thursday, where this particular program will offer iPads with apps that have been specially designed in order to help out Japan’s seniors manage their daily lives, and at the same time, allow them to keep in touch with family members.

The special iPad software will allow Japan’s national Post Office Watch service to better monitor elderly clients, and IBM will also be the one behind the cloud services provided, with the collaboration between Apple and IBM resulting in the creation of 22 apps to date.
