Android 5.0 Lollipop Market Share Increases By A Bit

When Google first launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system version on an official basis in the middle of October last year, it did so with much fanfare, not to mention a trio of new devices as part of the deal – namely the Nexus 6 smartphone, the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus Player streaming box. Apart from those devices, not too many existing smartphones or tablets in the market have received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and neither have carriers or manufacturers detailed out the exact dates or timeframe of just when they will roll out the Lollipop update to customers.

However, it does look like Google, alongside its hardware partners, are starting to experience some sort of progress in rolling out the update. In Google’s most recent figures, it points to Android 5.0 Lollipop being installed on 1.6% of Android devices, which is a rather considerable leap when you compare it to the previous month, especially when the figure back then happened to be under the 0.1% mark.

It is also interesting to note that overall, the number of devices that ran on Android 4.4 KitKat also grew a wee bit – touching 39.7% from 39.1% in the previous month. As for the majority of the other operating system versions, those saw a decline – which is to be expected, although Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 to 4.3) still continues to be the single largest block at the moment at 44.5%.
