“There’s an app for that”, or so the saying goes. Well, it seems that there is even an app that is capable of measuring details such as a wind’s direction as well as its speed. Of course, this does not mean holding up your smartphone to a gale force without having to do anything, but rather, you will need to pick up this successful Kickstarter project known as Vaavud for $50 a pop. Stick the meter into the 3.5mm earphone jack on a compatible smartphone, and the earphone jack will pick up sound from the wind.
All of those will be converted into a windspeed measurement thanks to the app. The app itself does the hard work of analyzing and collecting the relevant amount of data, which provides Vaavud with readings from the wind around the world. Right now, they are already receiving 4,000 new measurements per week, not too shabby, eh?
