Original Kindle Fire Gets Unofficial Android 4.4 KitKat Update

Well well, what do we have here? A first generation Kindle Fire tablet from Amazon that continues to defy the odds, especially when it was launched two years ago with a 7” display, 512MB RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. Why do we say that it defies the odds? Well, hackers have managed to ensure that this first generation Kindle Fire tablet still has what it takes to run the latest version of the Android mobile operating system – Android 4.4 KitKat, albeit in an unofficial manner, of course.

It would not be too surprising to hear this in the first place since the Kindle Fire shipped with Amazon’s Fire OS at the beginning, which happens to be based on the Android platform. Not too long after it was released, hackers managed to make it run on CyanogenMod and other Android ROMs, so Android 4.4 KitKat is still another feather in its illustrious cap.
