Sony Mobile has proudly announced that they have managed to hit a new 3-year high in their smartphone market share in Japan, further distancing themselves from Apple along the way. Bloomberg did report that this could be due to the fact that Sony actually managed to pull off a successful promotional campaign over their new Xperia range, not to mention the introduction of discounts as well from NTT DoCoMo in order to stimulate sales. It must be noted that DoCoMo themselves do not carry the iPhone, which could be why they are also so aggressive in pushing sales of the Xperia device.
Of course, one also cannot put aside the fact that Sony being a Japanese company, would also garner support from its own people in its home market, that goes without saying, although in the future, things might change as nothing is ever cast in concrete. Just take a look at Nokia’s market share in Finland and you will know what I am talking about.
