Samsung Galaxy S3 Browser Bug Eats Up Additional Data

So you think that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is more or less the “perfect” smartphone, at least that was before the Galaxy S4 was introduced to the world this year. It seems that not everything is fine and dandy, as four researchers who hail from the University of Massachusetts–Amherst have recently discovered a potentially damaging bug, where it resides in the Galaxy S3’s stock Internet browser, and this particular bug would result in the stock Internet browser downloading more than its fair share of images than what is required which subsequently also increases page load times.

The awesome foursome are Emmanuel Cecchet, Robert Sims, Xin He, and Prashant Shenoy, where they stumbled upon it when testing a Quality of Experience (QoE) benchmark application. If you want to know more, you might want to attend the IEEE Symposium in Montreal that is happening this week as they will be presenting their findings there. One of the ways where you can avoid from consuming more data than you normally do would be to avoid the Galaxy S3’s stock Internet browser altogether, and settle for an alternative like Firefox or Chrome.
