Google Keyboard For Android Announced

What kind of keyboard are you using on your Android-powered device? Assuming you are running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or above, did you stick to the stock virtual keyboard, or do you prefer to settle for a third party app such as Swype or SwiftKey? Those apps let you compose a text message or email in a jiffy, and for those who have always wanted to give Google’s Keyboard a chance but never got round to doing so, it is now available via a 15MB free download over at the Google Play Store.

The Google Keyboard app will come with “Gesture Typing”, which enables you to form words simply by dragging your finger all over the relevant letters, where you can also choose from a range of word options if the first choice word that pops up is not what you are looking for. Additional features of the Google Keyboard app include next-word suggestions, auto-complete, voice recognition, and support for 26 languages, although it will come in English-only at the moment.
