Plane Cockpit Hacked Using Android Smartphone

There must be a very good reason why we are told to turn off all of our electronic items during takeoff, in flight as well as landing, as it has been shared before that such devices could very well interfere with the airplane’s systems. Who would have thought that the level of interference would actually go to such far lengths, so much so that one can actually hijack an entire airplane using an Android-powered smartphone?

At a security conference in Amsterdam, hacker and researcher Hugo Teso showed off to the masses how the humble Android handset could hack into the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Report System (ACARS) without even having to be on the plane, where the ACARS will help control planes’ flight management systems, sporting little or no security at all.
