While the Kyocera Echo was an interesting phone, sort of like the Nintendo DS or Android smartphones, we guess it never really took with customers. Interestingly though, it seems that at one point in time HTC did consider something similar themselves. In a recently discovered patent, it seems that HTC might have toyed with the idea of a phone with dual-displays, with the secondary display sliding out from the primary display much like a slideout QWERTY keyboard. However instead of merely acting a secondary display, it has been suggested that the secondary display could “click” into place with the primary, thus turning both displays into one big display instead. However since this is merely a patent, there’s really no telling if HTC will ever realize this patent or if it is merely sitting in the USPTO’s office collecting dust. What do you guys think? Would you have liked to see HTC make an attempt at a dual-display smartphone, or do you think that there’s a reason the Kyocera Echo did not sell as well as it should have?
