Smartphones have more or less become the staple mobile device these days, just like how pagers used to flood the market all those years ago, letting you keep up with vital information on breaking news and stock prices. Well, Scientists over at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland have managed to come up with what they deem as the smallest medical implant in the world, where it measures a mere 14mm in size, and is capable of informing you over your phone in real time via Bluetooth connectivity statistics such as proteins, glucose levels, lactate and ATP in your blood, regardless of whether you are at rest or being active.
Hopefully medical implants like these will be able to help identify potential markers of diseases that might creep up in the future – sort of like an early warning system, so that preventive steps can be taken. All in the name of a long life and good health, no?
