South Korean consumer electronics conglomerate, Samsung, will soon be asked to stand trial in an antitrust case that sees formal charges thrown against it, where the European Commission claims that Samsung actually broke competition rules by filing patent lawsuits against Apple. Joaquin Almunia, the European Union’s antitrust chief, said, “We will adopt a statement of objections very soon. I don’t know if before the end of this year or the beginning of next year because we are in the last step of our internal procedures.”
This bit of news arrives after Samsung recently dropped injunction applications against Apple in five European countries, but despite that, the European Commission, EU’s executive body, will continue with this decision despite being reported to have been content with Samsung’s recent actions. What do you think of this situation, and will Samsung get out of it unscathed?
