To receive an item that you have ordered online in front of your doorsteps is something worth looking forward to, but to discover that said item was actually a stolen device, well, what else can we say about that other than it being a bummer. Ben Dreyfuss fell victim to such a situation after ordering a refurbished Apple iPhone for his mom from Amazon for Christmas, as he thought that it was a steal. Unfortunately, it was literally that – a steal, when his mom called Verizon to activate the purchased iPhone only to be informed that the iPhone unit she was holding in her hand has been reported to be stolen.
It must have been quite the conversation that Ben’s mom with the folks over at Amazon had, and Ben was informed to return the handset afterwards. No idea on what will Amazon do after that – refund all that Ben paid for, or will Amazon send a different refurbished unit which has been confirmed not to have been stolen? How about gifting Ben’s mom a free, refurbished iPhone instead? That does seem to be the best route to take.
