The Apple iPhone can be said to be one of the more desirable smartphones out there in the market, partly because the hardware and closed ecosystem delivers for folks who love working around that model, and the other part is because of Cupertino’s rather slick marketing machine. Well, that can only mean one thing – Apple devices are not too far away from rumors, and whether they will pan out to be true or not remains to be seen. One of the latest rumors is this – Apple is working on a cheaper version of the iPhone which they intend to sell in developing countries, and these more affordable iPhones would come unsubsidized, since mobile carriers in places like China and India tend to offer devices unlocked.
That particular working model is very different from the US and most of Europe, and since mobile carriers in China and India do not look too likely to follow such a business model, asking the masses to stump out a sizeable chunk of their monthly salary on a new iPhone might be too much, which is why a watered down iPhone does make sense – sort of. Do you think this rumor has any legs or not?
