Texas Instruments (TI) is said to stop all development for their OMAP system-on-chip, meaning we should not be able to see new smartphones and tablets down the road carry this particular chipset. After all, we have already started to see fewer and fewer OMAP chipsets appear in newly released smartphones and tablets, where one of the main reasons could be the fact that OMAP chipsets fall short when it comes to having an integrated 3G/4G modem. This results in hardware manufacturers to add another chip for that feature, increasing costs as well as the bulk of the finished product, hence making all-in-one solutions from Qualcomm a far more attractive proposition.
Not only that, in all probability, companies like Samsung and Apple who have been working on their own chipset solutions have not helped Texas Instruments either. I guess there is no love lost here when it comes to the demise of the OMAP chipset, so you can keep your tissues for something else altogether, like say, maybe the death of your pet goldfish.
