Nokia has certainly come some distance since their heydays, but right now, they are in the doldrums having being overtaken left, right and center by numerous other hardware manufacturers. In fact, Nokia has more or less ditched the Symbian platform, having placed their bets on Microsoft’s horse in the form of Windows Phone as the mobile operating system of choice. Well, will the Finnish phone manufacturing company be able to return to their glory days? Only time will tell, but what you see above is a new Nokia design patent that looks absolutely weird, sporting an unknown quantity right on top of the display.
What could that segment represent? Is it a D-Pad? Perhaps Nokia wants to rehash the old school N-Gage concept which frankly, bombed in the market. The designs started to appear in October last year, and NokiaPort managed to get hold of it to share with the rest of the world. I wonder if it will ever make it to the market sometime down the road.
