Nintendo can be said to be the king of handheld gaming over the years, where they tend to roll out a single model followed by a fair number of revisions for their devices. Take the Nintendo DS for instance – when it first came out, the design was definitely far from nice, but it was the secondary touchscreen display that really caught the imagination of the masses, not to mention nerve wrecking titles like Trauma Center as well as Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney. Who could have forgotten it once they have given it a go? Since the Nintendo DS was released, there were minor hardware revisions – like the DS Lite, in addition to the DSi and the DSi XL after that. All of them were minor steps in a hardware upgrade, but did not really bring anything new or groundbreaking. Having said that, Shigeru Miyamoto has shared with IGN that he is currently “satisfied” with the 3DS’ hardware, and intends to see Nintendo release a handheld in the future that will be more than just a minor hardware refresh, but rather, a total change to bring a radical new way to game?
