Now with the internet still buzzing about BlackBerry’s newly launched BlackBerry 10 Platform, the company’s CEO Thorston Heins has some interesting news that he revealed in a press conference. He said that BlackBerry 7 smartphones would not make the grade to the new platform when it does launch later in the year. He added that BlackBerry 7 applications might not work with the new platform and neither will it be the other way around.

That said however, the company did mention that some important applications which are currently running on BlackBerry 7 will be ported to the upcoming platform and it is committing to support BlackBerry 7.1 for “a while”. This statement by Heins is not unlike the one made last year about the older BlackBerry 6 devices not seeing the upgrade to BlackBerry 7 so it comes as no surprise although some users who have their BlackBerry 7 devices will be a little disheartened.

This new BlackBerry 10 platform, although it is launching amidst a torrential year for the Canadian company, seems to be a promising start, and when it does launch later this year, all of us can be the judge of whether it has deemed a place in the mobile OS ecosystem. What do you think of everything you have heard about BlackBerry 10 so far?
