Report: Windows Phone Market Share Overtakes iPhone in China

Within just two months of Microsoft launching its Windows Phone platform in China, Nokia also followed up with its launching of the CDMA variant of the Nokia Lumia 800 called the Lumia 800c on China Telecom. Michel van der Bel who is the COO of Greater China Region at Microsoft said that the company has achieved a market share of 7% as opposed to Apple’s iPhone which is reported to be sitting on 6%.

Before the standalone figure of 7% leads you to think that it isn’t exactly a big achievement, you should know that this is just after 60 days of Windows Phone OS being launched in the country. The kind of growth that Microsoft is seeing in China is a goal that the company is struggling to match in other countries around the world and it understands that very well apparently. Van der Bel explains that there is still a lot of work to do in China and due to the difficult task that lays ahead of the company, it has deployed a R&D Department with 2,500 people that will allegedly focus solely on the Asian market.
