Nvidia Icera Modem Chipset Validated
Earlier today, Nvidia announced that its Icera 410 LTE multimode data model chipset for tablets and clamshell devices has been tested and validated for operation on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. The qualification tests will apparently help manufacturers select a suitable processor for products that it wishes to put out in the future. With the validation and testing phase complete at least for the one carrier, manufacturers can have confidence in going forward with devices using the chipset.
Stan Boland who is the senior vice president of Mobile Communications at Nvidia said, “Validation with AT&T is an achievement that paves the way for Nvidia Icera-powered LTE devices on the AT&T network through this year and the next.” According to Nvidia, the Icera 410 LTE model is capable of delivering “lighting-fast” web browsing, video streaming and multiplayer gaming to tablets as well as clamshell devices. Apparently, it is the first Icera modem to implement 4G LTE in the company’s software defined radio baseband processor. Along with its multimode radio transceiver, the processor is also said to offer 4G LTE at category 2 data rates which hits speeds of up to 50Mbps along with 4G HSPA+, 3G and 2G compatibility.
