Future Nokia Handsets To Be Waterproof?

While they were announcing their latest budget smartphone, the Lumia 610, the Finnish mobile giant Nokia apparently also revealed that the company was secretly working on something called ‘superhydrophobic’ technology. The assumption about the meaning of that word at first glance would be something like a technology which makes water terrified of something and it seems we wouldn’t be that far off.

Conor Pierce, VP of Nokia Western Europe explained, “What happens when a drop of water lands on a lotus leaf? It has baffled scientists for generations but our team in Cambridge UK found a solution. Nano technology lets us do it. Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, it rolls it off the device and leaves it water impregnant, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party.”

While we don’t really know much else about this technology and what Nokia’s plans are for it, we think that the manufacturer’s intention with it is to implement ‘Superhydrophobic technology’ into all future PureView and Lumia devices which might be a good thing if it doesn’t have gaping holes both theoretically and physically.
