This Hack Turns Your iPad(s) Into a Tron-Style Keyboard

In the sci-fi blockbuster movie Tron: Legacy, Sam Flynn could be seen using a keyboard with bright blue keys and typing pretty easily on the virtual keyboard. A (self-admitted) keyboard nerd named Christian Cantrell who is a product manager and applications developer for Adobe’s Web Platform team took it upon himself to reproduce that cool keyboard from the movie. Cantrell used common web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript to make the keyboard which spreads out over two iPads (He uses one new iPad and one iPad 2).

As you can see from the video above, Cantrell tried making a few adjust to make the experience with the ‘keyboard’ more tactile by adding bumps to the screen where the F and J keys were but in his opinion, it was more fun to prototype the keyboard than to actually use it. His effort to reproduce what seems to be a flawless typing experience from the movie seems to have fallen short this stime but who knows what technology can come up over the next months or years. Cantrell has shared the source code for the project on Github so if you’re interested to give it a try or have a whack at making it better if you can, do stop by and have a look for yourself.
