LG recently unveiled their 5-inch smartphone called the Optimus Vu. The device seems to be packing some impressive specifications with a beautiful screen and it seems that Samsung’s fiercest rival could have a device capable of giving the famed ‘phablet’ a run for its money. The device is said to be running a 1.5GHz Scorpion processor with Android Gingerbread on board. It is just a mere 8mm thick with dimensions of 139mm x 90mm and only weighs 168g.

The Optimus Vu will ship with a HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 768 x 1024 pixels in resolution in a 4:3 aspect ratio, an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1.3MP front facing camera for video chat, 32GB of internal memory with the option of expansion via a microSD slot for another 32GB, 3G HSDPA connectivity and 1080p video capturing capability. Also available in the smartphone which could be categorized as a phablet as well is NFC capability.

For now there is no news of the device coming Stateside but it has already launched in its native South Korea and for those who do not have access to the Samsung phablet on their carrier, hopefully this one will land on yours although the Gingerbread and its 4:3 aspect ratio might be a deal breaker for some; but that is just an opinion.
