Socialcam; an Instagram for Video gets 4 Million Users over the Weekend

The concept of Instagram in all the glory of its filters was implemented on video apps like Viddy which is touted as the ‘Instagram for Video’. Now however, a team of 3 developers have come up with an application for iOS called Socialcam which successfully rode the wave of interest in video apps and apparently garnered 4 million new users over just the last weekend. Although Viddy can boast a larger overall number of users, it did take 11 days to hit 5.5 million users and in that aspect of things, Socialcam seems to be impressive.

Considering that there are 3 people behind the application, the newly found success of the application has led to the team’s decision to recruit more members. Socialcam allows users to create videos with custom filters that can be stored in the cloud and therefore is accessible across a range of devices. Moreover, your creations can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, E-mail and get this; even SMS. The app also comes with its internal community of users that allows products of editing to be browsed, watched, commented, and shared from the app itself. For now, it is too early to tell if Socialcam can actually give Viddy a run for its money, but judging from the weekend’s numbers, it sure is having a hell of a time while trying.
