A beta version of an app called SnapNPlay for Android OS’ has been released. The app is allegedly capable of scanning and playing back notes from sheet music. In order to provide the information to the application to work on, all the user has to do is to take a picture of the sheet music in question. The developers are quick to mention that the program is yet to be able to parse certain musical symbols such as rests, grace notes and triplets and that it also misinterprets non-notes as notes.

To put our worries to rest, they have also said that they are aware of the situation and are working to rectify it in order to provide this app for the masses who have always wished to be able to hear what certain music sounds like since it looks very confusing but impressive if you don’t know anything about music. The fixes will reportedly come to users in the form of an update. For the now, you can buy the demo version of Android SnapNPlay from the Google Play Store. And if I had this app, I would be downloading a lot of sheet music over the next few days. Watch the video embedded above for a glimpse of what the app can currently do.
