Shazam Recognized By Queen Elizabeth: Award for Enterprise in Innovation

The famous music-tagging application hit a new landmark when it was recognized with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for the app’s achievement in both, music and technology. The honor was given to the company by Her Royal Majesty, The Queen of England for “the achievement of a high level of innovation excellence.” The award was launched in 1965 and is one of the country’s most prestigious awards with the strictest judging scheme. In order to qualify for the award, the necessary data must be submitted for auditing by a set of judges which include representatives from government, industry and commerce related government sectors.

On top of that, trade unions reviewed the entries and made its recommendations. After that stringent short-listing system, the finalists would be passed over to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee for the final decision. According to a blog post by Shazam, “We are incredibly honored to be recognized for the leadership role we play in the global media discovery industry, particularly as the company was founded and is headquartered in the UK. It is especially gratifying to be recognized by Her Majesty in her Diamond Jubilee Year.”
