Philips Android Tablet Launching First in China

Electronic company, Philips is allegedly preparing to unveil a new range of 7-inch tablets that is rumored to be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Although the company is definitely to make available the Ice Cream Sandwich powered tablet, what differentiates this range of tablets to most others is that a few of the models are said to be featuring MIPS processors as opposed to ARM or x86 chips. The move is ideal since Google has recently announced that they are looking into building an infrastructure that better supports MIPS on future versions of the mobile operating system. The first tablet to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich already loaded was the Ainol Novo 7 tablet and that contained within it a low powered MIPS processor.

That said however, we might not be able to see the alleged tablets that are in question just yet since the company has seen it fit to launch them in China first. The little bit of hardware information that we have on the range of tablets leads us to believe that we can expect 1024 x 600 pixel displays or 800 x 480 pixel displays. On top of that, all the tablets will be able to support a variety of media codecs including MP4, H.264 as well as WMV. Finally the other only bit of detail we managed to garner is that all the tablets in the range will have 4-5 hours of battery life.
