iPhones vs Android in Wi-Fi vs 3G/4G

A report churned out by comScore has revealed that iPhone owners are more likely to use Wi-Fi to connect to the internet rather than their Android counterparts. The study showed that 71% of iPhone users in U.S use both Wi-Fi and their mobile broadband plan while only 29% use just mobile broadband (3G only for now). With Android owners on the other hand, a higher percentage of 68% use only their mobile broadband (3G/4G).

While the facts might lead you to think about different personality issues, the actual factors that lead to their choices comes down to the facilities and payment plans offered. In the U.S, Android smartphone users already have the access to the 4G LTE networks being offered around while the iPhone’s only avenue is via their 3G account.

Since there will be hardly any difference if they were to switch between Wi-Fi and broadband, they choose to stay with Wi-Fi instead of dipping into their plans while several of the Android users would rather stay with their broadband plans to take advantage of the blazing speeds. The comScore report was conducted not only in the U.S but also in the UK. Above is the report from an American point of view and how local users are affected.
