Ice Cream Sandwich Gets Biggest Gain, 1.6% to 2.9% adoption since March 5th
Google have displayed their latest Android version distribution numbers online for all to see. The 14-day period which ended on April 2nd 2012 consists of Android’s various OS’ and the percentage of Android users that use it. On January 4, Android 4.x.x was at just 0.6% which only indicated a rise of 0.4% by February and another 1% by March. Slow adoption rates like this are to be expected with various different carriers opting to release over-the-air (OTA) updates for their devices and some are waiting for reasons only known to them to release updates at a later date.
When compared with Apple’s iOS adoption rate, it has a high figure with 75% for the latest installment of the iOS which notched up a 61% last week signifying a 14% hike in adoption. Although this does not look too good for Android users, with as many variants of hardware and software as there are, a slower adoption rate to the latest OS is to be expected.
That said, Google’s Gingerbread is still powering through with its numbers as it holds a majority of Android-based devices at 63.7%. As you can see in the graph illustrated above, towards the right-most section Android ICS seems to be rearing its head but even with that, it has still not come nearly as close as we would like it to be to Android Gingerbread
