Google CEO Betting Big on Social and Mobile
Larry Page, Google’s new CEO started his stint at the helm of the company by eliminating about 30 products. He justified his actions by saying that Google had many opportunities and unless hard decisions were made, they might find themselves being spread too thin. Page claims that when he retook his position as CEO he has pushed hard to increase velocity, improve execution and focus on the big bets (social and mobile) to let users get exactly what they need when they want it through a simpler and more intuitive route.
In a letter that he posted up in Google+ he explained how the social network had more than a 100 million users and that the activity on the page is ramping up. It also shows with his recent endeavors of intertwining other Google products with the page as well as the integration with several products as Google Wallet with Android devices that the global search giant based in Mountain View California is looking to make its name a one-stop shop for everything tech.
Critics including European privacy agencies and US consumer watchdogs have argued with Google’s new policy to enable new and more targeted advertisements has no option of ‘opting out’ aside from refraining from signing into Google services and to that, Page says, “We recognize that the changes we make, like our recent visual refresh, can initially upset some users – even if they later come to love them. But we don’t operate in a static industry and technology changes so fast that we need to innovate and iterate.” It seems that Larry Page knows exactly what he’s doing and he is equally confident in defending the huge reorganization going on at Google probably thinking of ways to bring better things to users globally.
