The company known best for their affordable milk, gas stations as well as convenience stores has decided to go ‘tech’ as it stands on the brink of releasing an app which will alter the re-fueling of a car. The app which has been developed between PayPal and The Framingham carries a mobile payment system which would allow users to pay for gas at the pump using your phone. To encourage usage of the application, the collaborators are offering a discount of 5 cents off per gallon of gas pumped.

According to an article on IntoMobile, Cumberland Farms are just beginning to roll out the application and it is still at its pilot stage primarily around New England where the brand is concentrated. Reportedly, what people will like most about this app is that they will be able to finish the transaction while still in the car and can spend minimum time out in the freezing cold.

Like most other apps, the app they are calling SmartPay will have a location feature to direct you to the nearest participating Cumberland Farms. With 600 locations waiting to get the feature, users might be looking at a discount of up to 10cents off per gallon if the app is used. But for now, all the ground work must be cleared and only then can the app hit stores and be used for all of Cumberland Farms’ 600 locations.
