Amazon App Store Removes $20 In-App Purchase Limit
Amazon which only recently implemented in-app purchases for their apps has announced to its developers that the company is removing the $20 limit which it previously put in place. It said, “With our parental controls functionality now updated, in-app items over $20 may now be submitted via the developer portal.”
The timing for this is uncanny given that rivals Apple is currently waging a law suit against parents whose kids have totted up gigantic bills from in-app purchases. Currently, the Amazon App Store which is reportedly bigger than Google Play for Android is said to generate more daily revenue due to the popularity of the company’s one-click service for in-app purchases.
While this might be dangerous around happy kids who might get excited, devices like the Kindle have been updated with parental controls under the ‘settings’ which will only in-app purchases after a 4-digit pin is entered each and every time. The reason as to why in-app purchases is such a big deal can be reflected in a study by Flurry that showed 65% of the revenue that was generated in iOS’ App Store came from it and therefore it seems to be a source of revenue for many developers.
