UK parliament wants to buy every British MP an iPad

Apple’s iPad tablet is certainly a hit despite what the critics are saying about it, so much so that the Commons Administration Committee in Britain has recommended that every member of parliament should be given an iPad accompanied by a data plan. The total cost that tax payers can expect to pay for this proposal? Around £260,000 (~$415,000) including data plans.

At the moment, MPs are currently given two notebooks and three desktop machines, so why the sudden need for an iPad then? Well it seems that 70 MPs have bought iPads of their own so far and have claimed that this have saved “thousands of pounds”, mostly in saved printing costs. While it certainly sounds like a great way to bring office work into the 21st century and possibly increase efficiency, some have expressed their unhappiness at the idea, claiming that “the last thing taxpayers want is to fork out for a new toy for every MP.” What do you guys think? Yay or nay on the iPad proposal?
