Smoked by Windows Phone Challenge hits first hurdle as it’s beaten accidentally by Galaxy Nexus
The Windows Phone Challenge that has been spearheaded by Microsoft’s Ben Rudolph has suffered its first defeat when a Galaxy Nexus user “accidentally” beat the Windows Phone. The famous challenge dubbed “Smoked by Windows Phone” pits the Windows Phone against other smartphone users through random tests, most of which play to the Windows Phone strengths. In view of their first loss, Microsoft has not been very sporting.
Sahas Katta, a self-confessed Windows Phone fan headed over to the Microsoft Store to battle it out with his Android 4.0 powered Galaxy Nexus. He was tasked with showing the weather for two different cities. The Microsoft Store assistant who already had weather tiles for two cities pinned to her Start screen was surprised that Sahas also had placed two weather widgets on his home screen and to top it off, he had even disabled his lock screen which meant that with a press of the ‘Power’ button, he finished the challenge.
However, the Microsoft Store employees were unwilling to acknowledge that it was a win and started offering an excuse that it was necessary for him to show the weather for “two different cities in two different states” to qualify as a winner. However, his win seems sound as he did not have to do much to win the challenge by simply disabling the lock screen which is a native option of Android and downloading one extra 3rd party app. In an extremely classy act, Ben Rudolph tweeted back after hearing about the ruckus surrounding the incident, @sahaskatta @skattertech @mattlynley @joshuatopolsky Just saw this. Sorry about the hassle…come back for a rematch on a random challenge!
