Security company shows how easy it is to bypass the iPhone’s passcode system

If you thought the passcode system on your iPhone device was a secure way from preventing people from accessing the content on your device, you might want to think again. Micro Systemation, a Swedish security firm that specializes in helping police and military around the world crack digital security systems, has recently uploaded a video (above) showing how easy it would be to bypass the passcode system on an iPhone using its XRY software. According to Forbes:

[…] a Micro Systemation application the firm calls XRY can quickly crack an iOS or Android phone’s passcode, dump its data to a PC, decrypt it, and display information like the user’s GPS location, files, call logs, contacts, messages, even a log of its keystrokes.

It seems that the method employed by the XRY software is the same method deployed by jailbreakers to gain access to iOS devices. Granted not everyone around the world stores incriminating or sensitive documents on their iOS device, nor would every Tom, Dick and Harry have access to the XRY software, but the message Micro Systemation is trying to send is that we should be more careful with the data stored on our mobile devices as people tend to forget just how vulnerable our smartphones can be.
