Samsung to begin flexible AMOLED display production this year

We know that Samsung has interest in flexible AMOLED displays, and last year there was even talk of Samsung producing flexible AMOLED display handsets for 2012. While there’s still no confirmation from Samsung of a phone with a flexible AMOLED display, the company has announced that production of these displays are expected to begin in Q2 and Q3 of 2012, while further production will commence in Q2 of 2013.

So far Samsung has two devices, the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, both of which feature contoured displays, which while aren’t exactly flexible, show indication of Samsung moving towards that direction. This does not necessarily mean that we will be seeing flexible AMOLED display devices released this year, but to be honest we are really curious as to what sort of phones we might be able to expect in the future. What do you guys think? Are flexible displays a novelty or do you think that they will be incredibly useful?
