When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note at IFA 2011, it seemed like it might be a novelty device. After all, it was way larger than your regular smartphone, but smaller than your typical tablet, ultimately placing it into a category of its own dubbed the “Phablet”. If you were one of the naysayers of the Galaxy Note, perhaps it might be time to eat your words as Samsung has recently announced that they have shipped a whopping 5 million Galaxy Note devices over the course of 5 months (despite it shipping with only Android 2.3 Gingerbread), and has experienced a boost in demand after its stateside launch on AT&T’s network earlier this year.
Granted shipments aren’t the same as units sold, but it certainly proves that there is a certain amount of demand from retailers for the device, and we guess the combo of a large screen and a stylus has its appeal to many who might want to use it as a digital writing pad or sketchbook that they can take with them on the go.
