[Rumor] Galaxy S3 to have quad-core Samsung Exynos SoC with LTE

It is reported that the highly anticipated follow up to very successful Samsung Galaxy S2 will have a Samsung Exynos system-on-chip with built-in LTE in the device according to an anonymous Samsung executive in the Korea Times. While all bits and bobs we are hearing about the S3 are merely hear-say for now, it does not hurt to indulge in these rumors that are coming from many ‘unnamed Samsung employees’.

This latest one regarding the Samsung built Exynos chip which is also used in the Galaxy Nexus however does seem to be possible given that the Tegra 3 does not have a LTE-configured chip for U.S carriers, an obstacle allegedly that stems from Qualcomm’s refusal to offer its LTE modems to a direct competitor.

Given that Samsung already produced a similar processor and it is currently being used with no reported large failing with the Galaxy Nexus in the United States, they feel confident about its compatibility and reliability. Before this, it was reported that Samsung was considering Qualcomm’s MSM8960 SoC or a combination of Samsung and Qualcomm parts however the addition of a Samsung LTE modem to the upcoming 32nm Exynos processor could render that partnership moot for future products.
