New iPad users scorching through their monthly data plan in mere hours
The new iPad users might have known the LTE devices could get through data a lot faster if compared to 3G devices, but recent news may indicate otherwise. Many online reports claim that users of the new iPad were very concerned about how they breezed through their plan and hit the caps. In a few of the cases, users reported that they had reached a 2GB monthly cap in just a few hours of streaming video. Doing math capable of any LTE consumer, LTE speeds can hit 2MB/second which means that you would hit 2GB in 1000 seconds or under 17 minutes.
A new report from The Wall Street Journal has highlighted several unhappy AT&T and Verizon customer’s claims that Apple’s promise of a blazing fast wireless connection collided with the reality of how much they would cost. One man, Brandon Wells, who was profiled by Wall Street Journal got through his monthly 2GB in just 2 hours while streaming March Madness wirelessly. Another user glided past his 3GB AT&T data plan within 5 day by watching random videos and a few concert clips. The user also accessed and browsed a few social social-media sites for about an hour.
Judging by what the new iPad is capable of, it cannot be really a huge surprise that it would take more data and as Verizon estimates, LTE takes up about double the amount that would be used on a 3G connection and if the users do not alter their 3G surfing habits they would be in danger of overpaying.
A final bit of interesting news that was garnered from the Wall Street Journal report was that AT&T is looking into a way of allowing developers to pay for data that their apps consume when it use so the number during usage of the app would not be counted in the monthly tally. And while it is something that sounds intriguing, it will probably have to go through the wringer to iron out all of the kinks.
