NEC comes up with tactile touchscreen

NEC has come up with a way to make gaming experiences on tablet and mobile phones a lot more realistic with its tactile touchscreen display. Often compared with console gaming, mobile gaming as far as tablet and smartphone games go, have never been able to live up to the mark. Now, this might bring them closer to bridging the gap.

What the tactile touchscreen does is offer feedback when the on-screen characters undergo resistance or force. Imagine if you could feel the tension of the slingshot before you let it and continue to feel the ‘twang’ as the band snaps the bird towards the target. Surprisingly, the folks over at NEC and Tokyo Institute of Technology have come up with a fairly simple way of making it work instead of Senseg’s electrostatic-field based technology.
