Microsoft gives iOS developers instructions regarding Windows app design
Microsoft app developers center website is actively trying to encourage iOS developers to rethink the apps they currently design and port them to Windows 8 as a Metro app style. An article was sent to iOS developers highlighting the design elements that distinguish a Windows 8 Metro app from its iPad alter-ego.
The example that was given focuses on a photo journal that is connected. The journal allows users to view and manage their photos and videos online. Besides being a brief tutorial, the post also shows the differentiating factors where Windows 8 will be more ideal than iOS for developing apps. Among the factors provided in the post are the larger which would be available for the desktop version of the OS.
The post was more a promotional and informational tool rather than a detailed bundle of instructions as to how one would go about building a Windows 8 app but it is definitely there to make developers from the iOS platform wet their beaks and perhaps decide to port their apps in Metro style for the forthcoming Windows 8 OS. Microsoft sees the success of the iOS App Store and definitely realizes that the reason Apple has customers that stay loyal is because the Apps available in the store is large in number and more often than not, that becomes a deal breaker.
