Google/Motorola acquisition deal held up in China

Published

on

Google announced their plans to acquire Motorola Mobility last year for a whopping $12 billion, and naturally an acquisition of that size will not sit well with antitrust regulators. So far it seems that the acquisition has been approved by both the US Department of Justice and the EU, but it looks like there are still hurdles remaining and this time it’s by China’s antitrust regulatory board who are still investigating the acquisition and have yet to give it the green light.

Motorola has since sent a filing to the SEC informing them of China’s prolonged  investigation and will now be moving their target of completion to the first half of 2012 instead. No word on how long the Chinese antitrust regulators will take to approve the acquisition, but for those looking forward to seeing what Google and Motorola will be cooking up will have to wait. Until then check back with us for more updates.
