Google Play may sell Digital movies after all

Google is a successful company with a cornucopia of tricks up its sleeve. However, one of the things missing from the Google Play puzzle so far is its ability to sell digital movies. Besides that it seems that the Search Engine giants have everything needed to tackle Apple’s iTunes and maybe even Amazon itself. Currently, Google Play allows its customers to only rent their favourite movies which are enough for some but not for those who want to make the permanent switch from hard copies to digital ones.

Several unnamed sources from within the film industry claim that Google has been showing an interest in selling digital films to customers. This might be so because of a condition set by Hollywood in order to get access to rentals. With Android a reaching out far and wide, it seems a very good idea and the execs over at Hollywood are positively glee about the idea. For obvious reasons, they prefer sales over the rental option and Google will probably claim a fair share of the revenue that will be generated.

Mere weeks ago, Google crammed its four Android services into one Google Play package. Apps, movies, music and books were all in one easy to find place. The update is apparently to pave the way for Google’s rumoured Nexus tablet which some expect to deliver a knockout punch to the Kindle Fire. The tablet may or may not sport Android 5.0 “Jelly Bean” in Q3 of 2012.
