Google I/O 2012 tickets sell out in less than half an hour

It was an assumption that Google I/O tickets would sell like hot cakes after seeing the event sell out in 58 minutes last year but what we did not expect is for the demand to be as big as it was and for the tickets to sell out in 28 minutes. This however, is exactly what happened just after 7am PDT when Google set the registration page to live for I/O tickets.

Potential attendees were required to sign into their Google+ profiles and select tickets and many were met with a page that was constantly refreshing and would eventually say that tickets had already sold out. One of the possible reasons why the event saw the tickets fly off the shelves could be because the ticket holders might believe that they will receive a free smartphone, tablet or Chromebook when they attend. If this is the kind of response that Google can get, Apple developers might have some difficulty in securing a ticket when WWDC comes around.
