Battery life tested on the new iPad

Given all the hype regarding the new iPad and its retina display, Anand from AnandTech has taken it upon himself to include the batteries performance while web browsing amongst data he collected while reviewing the Asus Eee Transformer Prime. With the results you can see why Apple decided to increase the capacity of the battery. It was not because they wanted it to have a higher number for bragging rights but because the heavy duty device simply needed it.

Even with the large improvement, the battery life span seemed to be lower than that of the iPad 2. As Apple has explained, the drop in battery life is down to LTE which allows you one hour less battery life than while on Wi-Fi. Now for some good news for those of you who own the new iPad on Verizon’s LTE network only as this is currently not possible on the AT&T version. You can use the device as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and get up to 25.3 hours on a single charge of course with the display turned off.  This is of course made possible by the humungous 42.5Wh battery driving Qualcomm’s MDM9600 so you can get more out of it as a personal hotspot.
