While the ETSI has yet to make their decision regarding the nano SIM standard, Apple has recently been granted a patent for an “Ejectable component assemblies in electronic devices”, which would basically refer to a SIM card tray. However the patent was filed back in December of 2010, so there’s a good chance that this might have nothing to do with the current battle for the nano SIM standard that Apple is pushing for against Nokia, Motorola and RIM, although given on what we do know of Apple’s plans and designs for their version of the nano SIM, we wouldn’t be surprised if the nano SIM’s tray is based on this patent, albeit in slightly different dimensions. In any case, for those following the news on the nano SIM standard, the ETSI is expected to make their decision some time later this week, so stay tuned!
