The Nokia N9 was released before the Lumia line of smartphones and it was the first and the last that we have seen so far running MeeGo Linux OS. But according to a report by MeeGo Experts, you don’t have to stick to it anymore because they have spotted a way to dual-boot MeeGo and Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the device.

The software dubbed “Project Mayhem” is still in alpha mode so it will very rough around the edges. But surprisingly most of the Nokia N9 hardware seems to work properly when running ICS including audio, the multi-touch system, 3D graphics, USB, Bluetooth and phone functionality. We are yet to find out if the camera works.

Software video decoding also works but as there is no support for hardware video acceleration you will be treated to a less than ideal YouTube experience as they will be choppy. They say that HD YouTube or Netflix videos would be a certain ‘no’ for now. According to them, creating a dual boot setup would need some effort. They say you need to install a custom kernel that can support both OS’ then on top of that, a custom bootloaded that also will support dual boot setups. After that, load Android onto the device and you will be able to choose which OS to use at every startup.
