Acamar Transformer, convertible netbook and tablet
While the convertible netbook-tablet isn’t exactly a new product, our friends over at Liliputing came across this unusual model from China-based Acamar today. According to them, the convertible device sets itself apart from other devices based on two factors. The first is that you can raise the screen of the netbook up on a hinge located in the middle of the back section of it and lay it on the keyboard to turn it into a tablet.
The device comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450 single core processor with 2GB of RAM supporting the system. Memory wise it comes with a 120GB hard drive and all this runs on a Windows 7 OS. Regarding its display, it comes with a 8.9” display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and finally, VGA and Ethernet ports. While in tablet mode, the device also can take advantage of a G-sensor and a multitouch display.
According to Liliputing, one should not expect much from a 3000mAh battery which should give you just 2.4 hours of standby time which does not equate to too much running time. Given all the mediocre specifications, it would not hurt that the Transformer (Acamar) is reasonably compact at 10.2” x 5.7” x 1” and weighs in at 2.4lbs. The contributing factor to the smaller size is the absence of a touch pad in notebook mode because the regular feature has been replaced with left and right buttons along with a tiny optical sensor.
While Acamar is not as famous as other tablet or netbooks, one might be able to purchase one for $460 at a few hand-picked stores such as PandaWill and Fly Dolphin. If you want an alternative to this device you might look into acquiring and older Dell Inspiron Duo for a lower price. Finally, please take a closer look at the specs before making the purchase as the folks over at Liliputing don’t think that the Intel Atom N450 chip does not even support HD very well.
