Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has started rolling out for Android owners, but while there’s still a huge majority of Android devices that have yet to receive the update, there are already rumors suggesting that Android 5.0 could be launching soon. According to the rumors, it seems that the next version of Android could be seeing a launch in the summer of 2012, although Hiroshi Lockheimer, Vice President of mobile engineering at Google seems to think otherwise.

In an interview with Computerworld, Lockheimer revealed “After Android 4 comes 5, and we haven’t announced the timing yet, which we’re still sorting out […] There’s a lot of engineering work behind it still, and there’s also just the question of how to time it. […] In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still.”

All of this seems to suggest a fall release, much like Android 4.0. In a way we guess we can’t say that we’re too surprised to learn of that, but we will be keeping our eyes peeled for news of Google’s next version of Android, so remember to check back with us for the latest news.
