Samsung not buying RIM, dismisses rumors

It’s no secret that RIM is not doing as well as they should. In fact they have been urged by their investors to sell off the company, or at least license out their patents, which is why we guess it’s not surprising that a recent rumor surfaced that claimed that Samsung and RIM were reportedly in talks about a possible acquisition. However shortly after the rumor made its way around the internet (which also saw RIM’s shares jump more than 10%), Samsung released a statement which basically refuted the rumor.

According to Samsung spokesperson, James Chung, “We haven’t considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM).” Chung also went on to mention that RIM had not approached Samsung for a possible takeover. We guess Samsung being one of the more prominent manufacturers out there would be a popular choice by many as a possible buyer of RIM. The South Korean company has also been linked with possible purchases of HP’s webOS platform and Intel’s MeeGo, all of which so far have turned out to be nothing more than rumors and wishful thinking.
