Microsoft in talks with Pantech over Android licensing agreement

While Apple is busy going about trying to sue the pants off every Android handset manufacturer out there, Microsoft has been going about another way in the form of royalty collection. So far the Redmond company has managed to sign on several big names such as HTC and Acer into paying them royalty for every Android handset manufactured, and adding to that list would be Pantech.

Nothing has been signed just yet, but Pantech has confirmed that they are currently in talks with Microsoft about a similar licensing agreement. While the amount that other Android handset manufacturers have to pay Microsoft remain a mystery, an earlier leak some time last year may have revealed that HTC is currently paying Microsoft $5 per device sold. Given how Pantech is supposedly South Korea’s third biggest smartphone vendor, Microsoft could very well be rolling in the greens just from royalties alone should this licensing agreement with Pantech go through.
